When faced with cold, baffling statistics, few of us can imagine the reality of, say, how much rainforest is decimated each year, or what pollution really does to the world's oceans. And because we can't visualise these things, see the affect they have on our lives, we dismiss them. These days, there are simply so many issues, of such complexity, that it's difficult to grasp their scale and importance. Within the context of the story, 'What if...?' tackles these daunting issues in entertaining, easy to grasp ways so that anyone can appreciate them and their global significance.

These sites helped with my research on the Environment. The presence of these links does not mean these organisations endorse 'What if…?', nor that I endorse these organisations - they are included merely for readers to explore the issues 'What if…?' raises, should they so wish.

Climate Change Action	- documents the climate change movement and highlights the questions that we need to answer.
Climate Outreach Information Network	- aims to educate the general public on the problem of climate change, and provide innovative ways in which they can contribute to the solution!
Ecological Internet, Inc.	- is a climate change portal and search engine that promotes renewable energy, energy conservation, reductions in emissions, and ending deforestation.
Environmental Investigation Agency	- is dedicated to investigating and exposing environmental crimes, including illegal logging and the illegal trade in endangered species and climate-warming chemicals.
Friends of the Earth	- is the most extensive environmental network in the world, with almost 1 million supporters and 70+ national organisations worldwide.
Good Energy Ltd	- is the 100% renewable electricity supplier in the UK. We want to let people become part of the solution to Climate Change.
Green Alliance	- promotes sustainable development by working with senior people in government, parliament, business and NGOs to make environmental solutions a priority in British politics.
Green Horizon	- pulls together movements for transformation and the political actions of Green Parties to translate movement goals into public policy.
Greenpeace UK	- is an independent global campaigning organisation that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace
Grist.org	- with a humorous spin on green news and views, Grist.org informs, inspires, and links America's next generation of green activists.
Information for Action	- is an automated lobbying service, educational resource, maps, graphs, database, search engines, quizzes, jokes, cartoons, kids website, music, videos...
IUCN - The World Conservation Union	- the world's largest conservation network aims to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature, and to ensure that any use of natural resources is sustainable.
Joint Nature Conservation Committee	- is the statutory adviser to Government on UK and international nature conservation.
Maine Solar Energy Association	- educates people about renewable energy, particularily solar energy. We do this through hands-on workshops, seminars and participation in fairs and other events.
Marine Conservation Society	- the UK charity dedicated to protecting our seas, shores and wildlife.
mongabay.com	- provides news and information on conservation and the environment, with a focus on tropical rainforests.
National Council of Churches	- the Eco-Justice Programs office provides resources and opportunities for U.S. Protestant and Orthodox denominations to work together to protect and restore God's creation.
Planetary Voices	- Green Radio audio site featuring environmental issues, human rights, peacework and life affiriming interviews.
Rainforest Alliance	- works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.
Rainforest Concern	- works to protect threatened rainforests and the extraordinary biodiversity they contain (UK registered charity no 1028947)
Resurgence Trust	- presents topics of vital importance to our world, including ecology, climate change, sustainability, holistic education and conflict resolution.
Save Our Earth	- is dedicated to raising awareness of the Worlds Rainforests and saving these beautiful ecosystems for the future of Mankind.
SeedTree Inc.	- international tree planting effort to protect endangered forests using diverse species, renewable energy, sustainable human ecological and economical development.

U.S. Energy Information Administration	- is a policy-neutral statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre	- evaluates and highlights the many values of biodiversity and puts authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making.
World Resources Institute	- is an environmental think tank that goes beyond research to find practical ways to protect the earth and improve people's lives.
